LASTING IMPRESSION
Madder Reds narrates the cultural heritage of Assam
The project draws its inspiration from the traditional social cloth of Assam, known as "Gamosa," which has significant cultural and symbolic importance in the northeastern region of India in Assam.
Colours of Gamosa
Textiles serve as a symbolic medium for communal identity, creating a shared sense of identity. They embody cultural expression and are often reflected through the colours chosen in these textiles.
Colouring with Madder
Motifs and Prints development
I began developing my own motifs and patterns, taking reference from traditional woven designs.
Colours of Madder
The colour library is a collection of natural shades derived from exploring various concentrations and temperatures of madder roots. I meticulously documented how these colour swatches appeared in both white light and natural light.
Printed Madder
I created a cohesive range of swatches using madder and screen printing techniques. By layering these different techniques, my focus was on instilling the fabrics with prints that exude depth and dimensionality.
Accepting Fading of prints and overprinting to continue building up layers
Visualisation
A moveable wall with curtains and dividers, which was inspired by the WGSN trend of fluid flexibility. I wanted to explore a way to create cohesive and adaptable design solutions for interior spaces.

This project has been a personal journey exploring the interplay of materials and colour, while also embracing and incorporating my cultural heritage into my designs. I challenged myself to experiment with different scales and innovative design approaches, always keeping in mind the fabrics' adaptability in the future. Throughout the process, I placed a strong emphasis on meticulous documenting, capturing my journey in various ways. From inception to completion, I diligently recorded each step, pushing the boundaries of my creative process.
